Basically, trekkers are going to need the following trekking permits to make sure that their Annapurna Base Camp trek won’t be interrupted by government officials while going through various check points which are located inside the Annapurna region.
(1) ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit): Cost: 2,000 Rupees / 20 US dollars
(2) TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System): Cost: 2,000 Rupees / 20 US dollars
TIMS cost will be differ for travelers who have hired a trekking company for their ABC trek as it is going to cost only 1,000 Rupees or 10 US dollars.
As shown above, ACAP and TIMS Card are required by any trekkers wishing to do the ABC trek. Trekkers who are going solo without the help of any trekking companies can easily attain these permits without much complications. They simply need to go to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) which is located at the Pradarshani Marg, Kathmandu. Or you can apply for these permits after reaching Pokhara city by visiting the branch office of Nepal Tourism Board located at Pardi Dam side.
If you are heading for Annapurna Base Camp trek without any assistance of a trekking company/guide or porter then you will receive a green TIMS Card and likewise receive a blue TIMS Card if you are arranging your trek with a legitimate trekking company/guide. Also, the offices are opened from Sunday to Friday during regular office hours of 10 am to 5 pm. Do keep in mind that they remain closed during Saturday and major public holidays.
Required things for getting the permits:
- 2 passport photos
- 1 copy of your passport
- Insurance paper
- Permit cost
Remember, you must have these two permits with you at all times. Mainly because you are required to show them at various check points during your trek.
